Celebration Evening at Castle Quay...

CUSTOMERS of three prestige marques attended a celebration evening at Castle Quay recently.
Jersey Jaguar, Jersey Land Rover and Sunseeker Channel Islands combined for the event that included a cooking demonstration from celebrity chef Shaun Rankin.

Examples of the latest vessels and vehicles were on display and representatives from the three brands were on hand to offer help and advice.
The all-new Range Rover, with its updated clean and elegant shape, proved popular and it was joined by models of the Range Rover Sport and Evoque and the Land Rover Discovery.

Two stunning versions of the Jaguar XF were also present, the Sportbrake and the saloon. The Sportbrake combines the versatility of an estate car with the spirit of a sports car and features of a luxury saloon.

On the water, guests were able to go on board the extraordinary Sunseeker 28 metre yacht, which combines a top speed of 29 knots with revolutionary use of space and state-of-the-art materials.
Jacksons operations director Paul Kell explained that Jaguar/Land Rover and Sunseeker had a relationship in the UK and that the companies had worked together previously at the Jersey Boat Show.
‘The evening provided a good opportunity to showcase some of our new products together and it proved popular with our customers,’ he explained.
‘We are looking forward to combining again at this year’s Jersey Boat Show where we will have the stunning new Jaguar F-Type on display.
‘Shaun Rankin provided the food on the night and also offered a prize in the draw for dinner at the opening of his new restaurant, Ormer, next month,’ Mr Kell said.

Record March for Land Rover...

Well, Land Rover were so pleased with Motor Mall's sales of Land Rovers and Range Rovers in March that they thought it only right to give us a little treat for Easter. These enormous Easter eggs were a challenge but the MM team rose to the occasion and tried their best to polish them off!
Well done!

Jersey Evening Post recently interviewed Motor Mall Jersey's General Sales Manager, William Pucci, so we thought post it here for those that missed it in the paper.

Motor Mall - Exceeding Expectations...

MOTOR MALL is the Channel Islands largest franchised dealer, offering a choice of new vehicles from a dozen manufacturers and a wide range of quality used cars.

The dealership at Mont à l’Abbé represents Chrysler, Citroen, Jeep, Mitsubishi, Nissan, Peugeot, Skoda, Suzuki and Volvo, as well as light commercial vehicles from Mercedes-Benz, Peugeot, Citroen and Nissan. It also has access to many used cars both on site and through its sister Motor Mall in Guernsey. It also houses Jersey Land Rover and Jersey Jaguar on site and provides after-sales service for all the brands.

Motor Mall finished runners-up and was highly commended in the prestigious Car Dealer Magazine 2012 Wheeler Dealer awards in the Used Car Dealership of the Year, 50 to 100 stock category, and putting the customer first is the mantra of general General Sales Manager William Pucci.
He came to Jersey from America, where he had worked in the automotive trade for 30 years. He has run Ford, Highline and Toyota dealerships in Boston, Florida and Georgia, selling as many as 3,000 cars a month.

Since moving to Jersey a little over a year ago, representing BMW and Mini at Jacksons, William moved to Motor Mall as floor manager before taking up his current position in October last year.
‘Customers everywhere want to be treated with respect and given the red-carpet treatment,’ he said. ‘Buying a car is the second-biggest purchase most people will ever make, so they deserve to be well looked after. Whether they are spending £3,000 or £100,000 on a car, my sales team will go the extra mile for them before, during and after the purchase.
‘We have been working with our manufacturers to secure the best deals to pass on to our customers because we know the economy is still tough and people work hard for their money and deserve the best deal possible. The more cars we sell, the better deals we get from the manufacturers, and we can pass those on to our customers.’

William has been putting his many years of experience in sales to good use and has invested in training for his ten-strong sales team, who generally specialise in one manufacturer while having the general knowledge to offer advice on all the new and used vehicles. Among the team are Portuguese, Polish, French, Italian and Romanian speakers.

‘We have a wide range of customers and it is important to know how to talk to them and help them to find the right car and then guide them through the buying process. As general sales manager, I don’t like to be in my office, I like to take a hands-on role and be involved, from meeting customers at the door to handing over the keys.

‘We may be going for volume and offering big discounts, but I will not compromise on customer service and satisfaction.

‘There are also some customers who dread the whole buying process and worry about the hard sell. I want the buying experience to be fun. That is why we have themed events and sales at Halloween and Christmas. Buying a new car is exciting and the experience should be enjoyable.’
The Motor Mall concept is based around driving down the cost of motoring. Whether you are looking for a small hatchback, family saloon, estate, people carrier, sports car, convertible or 4x4, they carry the largest selection of new and nearly new vehicles in the Channel Islands with prices that they claim won’t be matched.

A range of finance packages is available and other products are available, including price protection, tyre insurance, budget service plans and paint and interior protection.

Motor Mall has also been at the forefront of driving down the price of fuel and has consistently been the cheapest, or close to it, in Jersey for several years.

William said that the year had started well and promised that Motor Mall would continue to offer customers ‘more bang for their buck’.

‘We will be continuing the sales, promotions and discounts, offering the chance to win iPads and serving coffee and doughnuts and putting up a bouncy castle on certain weekends so that the buying experience remains fun and can be something the whole family can share. We want to exceed our customers’ expectations.

States Go All Electric...

THE States of Jersey have taken delivery of ten electric vehicles that are now on the fleet and being used by a number of departments.

The Peugeot iOns have been leased for three years from Motor Mall, who have also provided the other petrol and diesel vehicles on the fleet, having been successful in the tendering process for a three-year contract.

Transport and Technical Services transport manager Mike Fleming explained that it was part of his role to evaluate the vehicles which are selected to go onto the States of Jersey fleet.

‘The technology on electric vehicles has now reached a level where it was appropriate to lease ten of the iOns for a three-year period to evaluate their practicality in everyday use,’ he said. ‘The claimed range is suitable for some of the roles of our pool cars, and it will be interesting to see if we can achieve the potential savings on fuel.’

Mike, who has been a mechanic for 40 years and is well known in motor sport circles, compared the switch to electric vehicles to the change from petrol to diesel engines two decades ago.

‘There was a lot of reluctance at first, as diesels were noisy and not particularly environmentally friendly, but the technology has come on so much that they are as good as petrol engines, and diesel-powered cars are even winning Le Mans.’

Mike explained that those departments who were allocated the iOns and had suitable parking spaces were having dedicated 16-amp sockets installed, with half of the ten already in place. ‘These sockets “talk to” the iOn and are only live when one is plugged in,’ he said. ‘The important thing for the driver is to get into the habit of plugging the car in at the end of a journey.’

Mike said that the iOn was a useful size and shape, and that he had been surprised by the impact it had made on his driving. ‘It is off the line quickly and is surprisingly nippy and nimble. One other thing I have noticed is that I have changed my driving style. Coming back from St Peter once, I noticed that the range had increased due to the regenerative braking as I got to the bottom of the hill. ‘The instruments show you when you are driving economically and I have found myself keeping an eye on the gauges to try and do so.’

Jacksons (CI) Operations Director Paul Kell said: ‘We are very pleased that Motor Mall was chosen for the third time to provide the States of Jersey fleet with vehicles. We’re also delighted that the Peugeot iOn has been selected as the first electrical vehicle for an extended trial.

‘It is a versatile little car, ideal for Jersey. It is a five-door hatch that is a cost-effective way into electric vehicle ownership. ‘Now that the price has come down to £15,000, it puts it on a par with a conventionally powered car, while offering the environmental and economic benefits of running an electric vehicle.’
